The Instagram agent skill: 13 free Claude skills that run your Instagram

In this guide

For creators and store owners who post on Instagram and want Claude to do the thinking, writing and checking, while they stay in control of what goes live.

By the end you will have the skills installed, your voice file filled in, and a first routine that uses the most useful ones.

Everything below comes from the project's own page on GitHub: https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/instagram-agent-skill. It is free and MIT licensed, made by Jake Schincariol. Credit goes to him. I checked the repo on 2026-10-31. Repos change, so if something here differs from the README, the README is right.

What it is

Thirteen Claude skills for running an Instagram account. According to the README it needs no signup, no API key and nothing to connect. One rule built into all of them: these skills write, you post. Nothing is posted until you say yes, and they do not post for you.

Install

Easiest way, paste this into Claude:

https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/instagram-agent-skill

Install this skill, then confirm /ig-reel works.

In Claude Code, you can do it by hand:

git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/instagram-agent-skill.git
cp -r instagram-agent-skill/skills/ig-* ~/.claude/skills/

Or as a plugin:

/plugin marketplace add Jakeschincariol/instagram-agent-skill
/plugin install instagram-agent

If you do not use Claude Code, you can paste a single SKILL.md at the top of a chat and it runs as a mode. You lose the five small Python tools, which matter most for /ig-reel and /ig-human.

Fill in your voice first (10 minutes)

Every skill reads a file called voice.md, so do this before anything else. Copy templates/voice.md from the repo to ~/.claude/instagram/voice.md and fill it in. Or send Claude three of your own reels and say:

Write my voice.md from these three reels.

Because you say the words out loud on Instagram, this file matters more than it does on other platforms.

The 13 skills

| Command | What it does | | :- | :- | | /ig-reel | Turns one idea into a Reel: three hooks scored from 26 formulas, the script, on-screen text and a timed beat sheet | | /ig-viral | Finds what works in your niche, ranks it, names the formula and writes a swipe file | | /ig-caption | Writes and lints the caption, and shows the first 125 characters the feed displays | | /ig-carousel | Cover, slide copy and the 1080x1350 files | | /ig-story | The daily story sequence and which sticker does which job | | /ig-profile | Scores your profile out of 100 and rewrites what lost points | | /ig-plan | The week: what to post, which format, when, and 10 accounts to engage with | | /ig-human | The humanizer, which cleans AI traces out of a draft | | /ig-comment | Comments on other people's posts | | /ig-reply | Replies in the thread under your own post | | /ig-dm | Keyword delivery, first message, collab pitch and follow ups | | /ig-repurpose | One video, podcast or newsletter into a week of reels and carousels | | /ig-audit | Reviews what you already posted and ranks it |

My favorite: /ig-viral

It looks at the reels that work in your niche, ranks them by how far each one beat its own account's normal results, names the hook formula, and writes it into a swipe file. That means you study why something worked and turn it into your own ideas, instead of copying a video that was only big because the account is big.

The README says it reads, it does not scrape: about ten accounts, a dozen reels each, at human speed, while you drive your own browser. It never asks for your password and never logs in as you.

Try this:

/ig-viral
My niche: [describe your niche, for example AI tools for online sellers in Morocco].
Give me the steps to collect reels from 10 accounts in my niche, then rank them and turn the top 3 formulas into ideas for my next week.

Replace the text in brackets with your own niche.

The tools that run on your machine

Five small scripts run locally, with no network and nothing uploaded:

  • hookscore.py ranks your hook options.
  • beats.py times your script into beats before you film it.
  • caption.py lints the caption and enforces the current limit of five hashtags per post.
  • humanize.py and detect.py clean a draft and score it.
  • swipe.py ranks the reels in your swipe file.

An honest limit you should know

The author tested the hook scorer on 74 real short hooks. It is good at catching bad hooks and does not reliably pick the winner between two decent ones. So use it to kill weak hooks before you film, then trust your own retention graph. Treat any score as a filter, not a prediction.

Your first 30 minutes

  1. Install the skills (5 minutes).
  2. Fill in voice.md (10 minutes).
  3. Run /ig-profile and apply the fix-first rewrites to your bio (5 minutes).
  4. Run /ig-plan to get this week's plan (5 minutes).
  5. Take one idea from the plan and run /ig-reel. Pick the best hook, film it, then run /ig-caption on the caption (5 minutes).

My honest take

You do not need all thirteen on day one. Of the 13, /ig-viral is the one I would start with, because it turns what already works in your niche into your own ideas. Add /ig-reel for the hook and /ig-caption for the first line, then bring in the rest when you feel the friction. Keep every post under your own approval.
